William Ellis
Spangler
Jan 5, 1953 — Apr 4, 2022
On Monday, April 4, 2022, The Spangler family unexpectedly lost its patriarch, it's rock, William Ellis "Spanky" Spangler.
Ellis was born in San Antonio, Tx. January 5, 1953, but ended up landing in the Houston, Tx area with Cathy, his wife of 43 years. Here the couple raised two amazing girls, Nicole and Amanda. Through the years, his open-door policy would welcome countless friends, and their house became home to any who needed it. It quickly became the most welcoming place in town. Quite simply put, Ellis Spangler never met a stranger!
With the help of a few of his friends, Ellis realized one of his lifelong dreams by co-founding the Cayenne Social Club Cook Off team that would go on to compete in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World Championship Cook Off. Over the next 27 years he was thrilled to be able to support his community and felt this was a great way to give back. He has since passed on this legacy to his girls who are carrying it on in true "Spanky" fashion. Beyond work and his love for the CSC, Ellis also LOVED to entertain. He often welcomed his "rowdy friends" to join him at his own brainchild, "Spanky's Beer, Bait, and BBQ", his homebased hand-built garage bar that would be the envy of any man. This, of course, became the ideal venue for countless birthdays, graduations, and just good old family get togethers.
After a long and dedicated career in the air conditioning industry at Johnson Supply, Ellis retired and settled in the country with his beautiful wife, his mother, Grace Newsome, his adoring daughter, Nicole and her husband Bryan as well as his three incredible grandchildren Hayden, Evelyn and Bryson. He was extremely proud of his daughter Amanda, through her career in the U.S. Navy and beyond!! As a family, the large group would travel the country, and the world to find new adventures, and to make the absolute most out of life.
He is survived by his loving mother, Grace Newsome, his dedicated wife Cathy Spangler, and his adoring children Nicole Spangler Bankhead and Amanda Spangler, as well as his admiring son-in-law Bryan Bankhead, and his three incredible grandchildren, Hayden, Evelyn, and Bryson and countless friends that he considered family.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 8, 2022, from 10-11am with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00am.
