Thomas Godwin, age 79, of Waller, Texas passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 27, 2020. He was born on June 22, 1940 in Dublin, Georgia. He is preceded in death by parents Thomas Godwin, Sr. and Ollie Mackey Godwin. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Merilyn Cash Godwin; daughter Jennifer Godwin; sisters-in-law Vivian Cash Olsen and husband Arnie, and Judy Cash Kelly and husband Martin, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Thomas grew up in Dublin, Georgia, served in the United States Marine Corps Band for four years playing his trombone and moved to Nacogdoches, Texas in 1965. After becoming a professional photographer and marrying Merilyn, they moved to Waller in 1967. He worked in Public Relations at Prairie View A&M University as photographer for several years. After retirement, he enjoyed working as a greeter at Bass Pro Shops in Katy. He also enjoyed taking portraits, weddings, athletic pictures and landscapes in the community.
He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed spending time with family members, always taking his camera wherever he went. He loved to watch history documentaries, listen to classical music, enjoyed playing golf, taking pictures and fishing. He was a member of Second Baptist Church of Houston.
Memorials may be sent to the Parkinson's Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Canon Funeral Home.
