Obituary

Sherman Haskell York, 89, of Tomball passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday morning, March 17, 2021. Sherman was born July 6, 1931 to Carl Raymond York and Bertha Lee (Emerson) York in Canton, Texas.

He married Wilma Jean McEnturff on January 8, 1951 in Van Zandt County, Texas. The had three beautiful children together and moved to Houston as a young family in 1960. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and an attentive grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. Sherman built a career in foundation drilling, owning a company in Houston, and retiring at 75. He was a member of the Waller Baptist Church. He was generous, compassionate and deeply loved and admired by so many friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and employees. He loved the outdoors, gardening and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He had a million dollar smile and infectious laughter that would light up the room. He worked hard, was a loyal friend and a wonderful man.

He is survived by his son, Tommy Haskell York and wife Kim of Weimar, TX; daughter, Debbie York Scates and husband Robert of Tomball, Tx; brother Paul York and wife Judy of Athens, Tx; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Sherman was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Wilma; his son, Steven Wayne York; parents, Raymond and Bertha; brothers, Earnest Nathen York, Thomas Howard York and Carl Raymond "Butch" York, Jr.; sisters, Betty Clyde Malone and Bobbie Ann Coleman; great grandsons Albert Frank Brewster III (Trey) and William Shane Brewster.

Visitation will begin Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Canon Funeral Home in Waller, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, March 21, 2021 at 2:00pm with Chuck Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Canon Mathis Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Scates, Hutch York, Eric Miller, Christopher Christian, Joshua Buchanan and Ricky Young.

Reception immediately following the funeral service at the home of Debbie and Rob Scates in Tomball, Tx.
