Richard Wyatt Poindexter Sr., age 68 of Hempstead, passed away on October 6, 2025.

Paps loved sitting on his back porch swing looking at his roses and watering his crepe myrtles. He loved watching the news, stormy and cold weather and scary movies. He also loved a good meal, a good Sam's trip and over decorating for the holidays.

Richard loved his little companion Chloe and his kitty cats, but there was no greater love for him than his grandsons. He was always so proud of their accomplishments and the young men they are becoming. He boasted on all 4 of them.

He is preceded in death by his mother Floyia Poindexter; father Leffel Poindexter; brother James Lee Poindexter; sister Vonna Geneva Patterson; and spouse Martha Word.

Richard is survived by his son Richard "Rick" Poindexter Jr.; daughters Vonna Lynn Poindexter, Sabrina Hoffart and husband Ken; sister Nettie-Lynn Jones; grandchildren Wyatt Lee Poindexter, Morgan Glen Poindexter, Dalton James Poindexter, Carter Martin Hoffart; as well as other family and friends.

Richard is in the care of Canon Funeral Home.
