Opal Marie Frey Adams was born June 14, 1925 to Sophia Mae Schaffner Frey and Fritz Joseph Frey in Sunny Side, Waller County Texas, and passed away on May 31, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Lee Adams, of 49 years, her parents and sisters, Rosa Lee Frey Brooks and Marguarite Frey McCaffety, and son in law Terry Rister. She is survived by her children, Iris M Adams-Dunsmore and husband Casey, Mildred L Adams Rister, and Joe M Adams; grandchildren, Robert Flowers, Josh Adams and wife Jamey, Melinda Rister Jasek and husband Woody, Shelly Rister Drake and Husband Brett, Joe M Adams II and fiancé Jessica Morgan; great grandchildren, Ashlynn Flowers, Caleb and Noah Drake, Joe M Adams III and Max Adams, Opal and Ivy Adams; sister, Freda Frey Wendt and husband Wilburt; special friend Julie Leviner; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At age 5 Opal's parents moved the family from Sunny Side to the Frey family home place on Blinka Rd in Waller County. She attended Waller Schools and enjoyed playing volley ball as a setter her last 6 years in school. She graduated in 1945. Volley ball continued to be a favorite sport for her as she encouraged nieces and nephews to play at most family gatherings. She played well into her 70's.

Her chores on the farm as she grew up included twice daily milking 3 to 5 cows, cleaning out the barn, feeding the chickens and gathering eggs. During harvest she helped pick watermelons for market and most dreaded picking cotton. She also drove the rake to help bale hay and drive the horse team and wagon to bring hay into the barn to store.

Opal's favorite horse was Coli. She would ride him around the area to visit family and friends in the community as well as do chores on the farm.

In 1945, after graduation from school, she worked in Waller at a grocery store owned by Mr. and Mrs. Krumo for 1 year.

She met the love of her life, Malcolm Lee Adams in 1944. They married on March 2, 1945. They made their home in the Katy area where Malcolm worked on various rice farms to support the family.

In her children's early years Opal was a stay at home mom. She was a wonderful cook and always had cookies, cinnamon rolls, cakes and pies waiting for after school snacks. Her chicken fried steak was the best, and don't forget the homemade biscuits and syrup every morning for breakfast, daddy's favorite.

Some years later she began to work outside the home in clothing stores, cleaning offices, and breakfast cook at a local gas station.

In 1975 her beloved grandchildren began arriving. She enjoyed each and every one and was always having them stay overnight so she could spend more time with them.

In 1975, she and Malcolm left the Katy area and moved onto the acre of land in Waller where they lived until their death.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Canon Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Monday, June 4, 2018 at 11 am at Canon Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pattison Cemetery.
