Myrtle Carson, age 91 of Hempstead passed away on October 10, 2015. She was born Myrtle Schmidt on July 29, 1924, in Waller County, one of 9 children of John and Julia Schmidt. She is preceded in death by husbands, Curtis M. Siegmund and Gene Carson; brother Louis Schmidt; sisters, Doris Haak and Pauline Wollgast, and survived by sons, Dennis Siegmund and wife Sandy and David Siegmund and Minnetta Palacios; brother, Stanley Schmidt and wife Paulette; sisters, Ruth Connett, Judy Smith, Patsy Dotson and Johnnie Haak; grandchildren, (D.J.) David Siegmund, Jr, Daryl Siegmund and wife Valorie, Charlotte Peters and Michelle Lampe and husband Matt; great grandchildren, Joe, Dee Dee, Jesse, Megan, Mason and Matson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Growing up she attended the country school in Monaville. After graduation she attended Blinn College in Brenham and then began working at her first job at the Houston Lighting & Power Company.

Myrtle married Curtis Siegmund in 1946. They were an industrious couple and always had a little business "on the side". Myrtle had various jobs during her early working years. Her career with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), an agency of the USDA, began in Lee County during the time that she lived near Giddings. Myrtle was hired to work at the Lee County ASCS as a temporary clerk during a disaster program for three months. After this period of temporary employment, her abilities and good work ethic were recognized by her employer and the temporary position led to a permanent job in that office.

This began Myrtle's career with this agency, resulting in attaining the highest position on the county level for that agency; County Executive Director. Myrtle was named "Woman of the Year" by the Business and Professional Women's organization and while working as County Executive Director of Hays County ASCS she was later named "Conservationist Woman of the Year." Myrtle retired in 1985 as County Executive Director of the Hays County ASCS Office with over 30 years of service.

After being away for 53 years, Myrtle returned to her roots in Waller County in 2000 to be near her family and made her home in Hempstead. One might say that Myrtle "hit the ground running" becoming involved in her church, Trinity Lutheran Church, as well as in community organizations and projects. Myrtle is a "hands -on...let's get it done person" with special skills in leadership. In addition to those skills, she was very talented with using her mind and her hands in sewing quilt blocks together, crocheting, and making various craft items. She has participated in and shown her creations in many craft shows.

Here in Waller County Myrtle was active in: AARP Chapter, former President and Secretary; Child Protective Services, Board Member; Democratic Party of Waller County, former Secretary; Trinity Lutheran Church council, choir, Trinity Women and committee chair for Game Day held monthly.

Myrtle encouraged the Democratic Party group to support a project that provides needed items for wounded veterans at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. This group has made this an annual project, naming it "The Myrtle Carson Wounded Veteran Project".

Myrtle would probably say her greatest accomplishment in life was raising 2 sons, Dennis and David. who are devoted to their mother. She was so proud of them and treasured her time spent with them.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 6-8pm. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10am at Canon Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Hartman officiating. Interment will be at 4pm at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park, 2951 South SH 46, New Braunfels, TX 78103.
