Letha Mae Sheffield, age 92 of Hempstead, passed away on August 27, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Josie Holcomb; husband Raymond Sheffield; siblings Latham, Jessebell, Richard "Dick", Archie, Charlie R.P. "Buck" Holcomb.

Letha is survived by her son John Steven Sheffield and wife Jody; daughters Deborah Raye Latham and husband Dale, Teresa Sheffield Rogers and husband Edward; son-in-law Captain Robert Thompson; sisters Mildred Waters, Thelma Curry and husband Ralph; grandchildren Shannon (Michael) McGinn, Jennifer (Paxton) Crew, Julie (Andrew) Dykes, Amanda (Daniel) Jomarron, Kelley (Cory) Land, Kimberly (Derrick) Meyer, Kasey (Steven) Dean; 17 great grandchildren; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

Letha Mae Sheffield was born June 18, 1930, in Weches, Texas to John and Josie Jackson Holcomb. She was one of nine children. She attended Glover High School where she was the captain of her volleyball team, also lettering in her sport.

At the age of 19, she met Raymond Woodrow Sheffield. They married July 2, 1949.  They were married 62 years. They started their life together in the Houston Heights. Later they moved to Pecan Park to raise their three children. We have fond memories of her channeling June Clever, dressed up in the kitchen in her heels, pearls and matching apron, preparing the most wonderful meals for her family.

They retired in 1977 to move to their ranch, L77 (Leisure 77) in Hempstead, Texas. She was the President of the Waller County Extension Group. They spent the next three decades raising livestock, farming, traveling, square dancing and playing with their grandchildren. They had many friends that shared their love of square dancing and game of canasta.  Letha was quite the seamstress, as she made all their square-dancing clothes.

Letha was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her life's work was her family and her faith.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 9:30-11am at Canon Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at  11am with Pastor Erik Gragert officiating. Interment will follow at Fieldstore Cemetery.
