Leona June Tharpe went to be with Jesus at the age of 92 on March 22, 2019, at Spring Senior Home Care in Spring, Texas with help from Traditions Home Health Care and Hospice. She was born on June 6, 1926, to the late Harry John and Zella Edna Wettengel in Mutual, Oklahoma. She spent most of her growing-up years in the Kansas City/Richmond, Missouri area. Leaving high school, she got her first job at Pratt and Whitney to make airplane parts to do what she could to help in World War 11. After marriage, she was a stay-at-home mother until she moved to Pasadena, Texas where she worked at A&G Food Center, Wilson Office Supply, and retired from Eckerd's Drug Store. She relocated to Conroe, TX, where she resided in Camelot Pines, a senior community, for her last 28 years. She attended First Assembly of God and The River Assembly of God in Conroe, TX. She leaves behind her last sibling, Margaret Jo Wettengel Hall of Santa Cruz, California as well as several nieces, nephews, and their families. She is survived by children Marilyn Diane Tharpe Bird (David) of Belton, TX, Linda Tharpe Lusk of Arlington, TX, Deby Tharpe Czagas (Billy) of Burlington, N.C., and Robert Michael Tharpe (May) of Spring, TX. She has eight grandchildren Kimberly Bird Lamm (Gary) and Stephanie Bird Millington (Richard) of Temple, TX; Kevin Laredo (Lori) of Mansfield, TX; Christopher Lusk of Wills Point, TX; Jason Rhoads of Cypress, TX.; and Brian Tharpe (Lindsey), Jamie Tharpe Burciaga (Billy), and Aaron Tharpe (Rachel) of the Conroe, Spring area. She leaves behind 21 great-grandchildren: Cameron, Courtney, and Caleb Lamm; Emily, Sarah, Katie, and Tyler Millington; Ashton Laredo; Lucie, Olive, Valor, Edie, and Dash Tharpe; Will, Emma, Owen, and Grace Burciaga; Nova, Petra, Ender, and Wilder Tharpe. She enjoyed loving on the babies and loved to talk about her family to anyone who would listen. One of the last things she said was, "I thank God for everything He's done for us and for everything He's going to do. I appreciate Him. God saved me. God is good."

Her memorial service will be at Canon Funeral Home in Waller, TX on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Visitation will be at 10:00, followed by the service at 11:00. Burial will be at Kirby Chapel Cemetery in Hempstead, Tx. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Volunteers of America of Texas or a charity of your choice.
