Joyce Ann
Gallway
May 21, 1941 — Apr 19, 2024
Joyce Ann (Brewer) Gallway was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 19, 2024. Joyce was born on May 21, 1941, in Galveston, TX. She was 82 years young. She grew up in Galveston with her parents, Dorothy and Charles West Sr., and brothers Terry Brewer and Charles "Butch" West Jr. She attended Ball High School where she played percussion in the band.
Joyce was baptized into the Christian faith on September 21, 1941, and confirmed that faith on April 3, 1955. On February 20, 1960, she married Arnold Gallway. From that union they had 5 children Ron, Steven, Donna, Glenn, and Michael. The family moved to Waller in 1976, when they opened Big Bear Grocery Store. After raising her children, Joyce went to work for Waller ISD as a volunteer, substitute and then secretary for Holleman Elementary. There, she impacted the lives of numerous students, parents and coworkers for the next 30 years - students still remember little Mrs. Gallway welcoming them at the front office. For the last 5 years she worked at Waller High School as the Budget Bookkeeper, offering immeasurable value and joy to both co-workers and students. Many would agree that her smile was contagious, and she was always happy. She loved her Delta Kappa Gamma family and always enjoyed going to the monthly meetings to catch up with her friends.
Her love and passion for children and sharing her love for Christ shined as she taught Sunday School for 45 years at St. John's Lutheran Church with her famous sandbox stories. Joyce loved having her family over for holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas always consisted of a heaping pan of her famous mac and cheese, rolls, and desserts. Somehow, she always managed to remember everyone's birthday and anniversary making sure to send a card for each occasion. You would always receive that card in the mail and a phone call from her on the exact date of the celebration. Her work ethic, strength, problem solving skills, ability to brighten your day, and resilience are just a few of her defining qualities that she will always be remembered for.
Joyce Gallway is survived by her children Ron Gallway and wife Carol, Steven Gallway and wife Laurie, Donna Carline and husband Scott, Glenn Gallway and wife Marie, and Michael Gallway. Brothers Terry Brewer and wife Lucy, Charles "Butch" West Jr. and wife Rhonda, and sister, Gail Trevino and husband Arman. Grandchildren CeJay Dunn (Alex), Lacey Gallway, Jason Gallway, Evan Gallway, Heather Jackson (Lance), Dillon Davis (Amber), Daniel Randermann (India), Rachel Church (Josh), Bryan Blaser and Greg Blaser. Great grandchildren Bentley, Jade, Brooklyn, Brittyn, Jake, and a baby girl Davis due in June. She loved her Granddogs Tucker, Jerry, and Layla. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of many other precious family members and friends who have become family. Especially those who were by her side during the last months taking her to appointments and caring for her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Mae West and Charles West Sr. and Selby Brewer and Sister-in-Law, Kathy Brewer.
