John "Big John" Harris Roberson

John Harris Roberson, "Big John", age 73 of Waller, TX, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022.   John is preceded in death by his parents, Arrell and Sophie Roberson; brother Bill Roberson; sister Loyce Burger. He is survived by his sons John Roberson and Jennie, Parrish Haverstock and wife Peri, Hal Haverstock and wife Marie; brother Buddy Roberson; grandchildren Madison Roberson, John Roberson Jr., James Roberson and Joseph Roberson, Megan Haverstock, Savanna Haverstock, Hal Haverstock III, Liam Haverstock, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was born October 5, 1948, in Houston, TX. He attended Spring Woods High School where he played football. John served in the Army where he was stationed in Germany. During his time in the service, he was known as the "party planner" and guy who could make things happen. This title served him well the rest of his life as he loved to gather with his family and friends. After his service he worked at Cameron Ironworks before he began his lifelong career as a vegetable farmer. He worked at DiIorio Farms for 20 years in Hempstead. He was proud of his crops and recruited anyone he could to work in the fields with him.

John was bigger than life and was known as "Big John". Big John was an outdoors man whose passion was to fish and hunt. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his friends at the deer lease in Colorado, and later with his sons.

Big John was a lover of dogs and always had one, two, or ten of them with him in the back of his truck. He had a big heart and was known to take in anyone who needed help. He always had an open door, literally. He never met a stranger and if he did, he would just call you "Hey" and would quickly enlist you to go fetch something. He loved watching movies especially westerns, and enjoyed taking people to the movies, sometimes spending the whole day. John was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Fieldstore and enjoyed the fellowship every Sunday when he was in good health, as well as the annual Fish Fry.

The family would like to thank Harvest Homes in Tomball, TX for taking care of Big John over the past year making his last days a comfort.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 5-7pm at Canon Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 5, 2022, at 10am at New Hope United Methodist Church with Pastor Wade Floyd officiating. Interment will follow at Fieldstore Cemetery. And, a Celebration of Life will follow at Fieldstore Community Center.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church in Fieldstore.
