James Leroy "Jimmy" Bremer passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on July 22, 2026, at the age of 91.

Jimmy was born on April 13, 1935, to Henry and Hazel Bremer at the hospital in Prairie View, Texas. In his early years, he was baptized in the Lutheran Church and developed a love for farming and the agricultural way of life. As a child, he attended school in Hockley through 8th grade. Later in life, he loved sharing stories of racing the other children to and from school on his pony—and beating them all, even though they rode full-sized horses. Jimmy attended Waller High School from 9th grade until his graduation in 1952. During the summers of his 9th and 10th grade school year, he worked at the Hockley auction barn for Mr. Grey. He then briefly attended Blinn College where he majored in pool hall.

During the summers of 1953 and 1954, Jimmy took a job in Colorado doing seismographic work. He was accompanied by Walter Thane who would become a lifelong friend. Upon completing his work in Colorado, he returned home to Hockley and drove a truck for Blaschke Truck Lines, hauling steel for highways, bananas, and other goods across the state of Texas.

Jimmy then joined his father in farming, but after Hurricane Carla destroyed their first crop together, he went to work for Tennessee Gas for a couple of years. He continued farming with his father until his father's death in 1971, then farmed by himself until the mid-1990s. His passion for farming and ranching was shared with and embraced by his sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons.

In 1956, he married Dorothy Mae Pfeffer in Bellville, Texas. Together they shared 67 years of marriage. They moved to the original home at their current address in Hockley in 1957 and, in 1967, built the home where they raised their four children, welcomed countless family gatherings, spoiled their grandchildren, and remained together until the end of their lives.

In his free time, Jimmy enjoyed life's simple pleasures and the company of good friends. He was a staple at the local beer joint, where you could find him with an ice-cold Miller Lite in hand, sharing stories, playing dominoes, trying his luck with the Texas Lottery, or going out dancing in his younger years. If you ever heard someone mention "The Mayor", you knew they were talking about Jimmy — a nickname he earned because he never met a stranger and always had time for a conversation.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents, Henry and Hazel Bremer, and his infant sister, Maxine, as well as his father and mother-in-law Walter and Ella Katherine Pfeffer.

Jimmy is survived by his sons Stanley and wife Lisa of Waller, James C. "Butch" and wife Jackie of Waller, Steven and wife Mary of Texas City, and daughter Stephanie Barro and husband Paul "Looch" of Austin; grandchildren Kyle Bremer and wife Jennifer, Keith Bremer, Brittney Brunner and husband Blake, Kathryn Prior and husband Jacob, Jennifer Owen and husband Dustin, Brandon Worsham and wife Anna, Ryan Bremer, and Aaron Bremer; great-grandchildren Zachary Bremer and wife Caitlyn, Richard Bremer and wife Jordan, Dyllan Bremer, Blair Prior, James Wade Owen, Easton, Tanner, and Trace Worsham; great-great grandchildren Zoei Harper, Kallen Harper, Bodhi Bremer, and Lanikay Bremer; sister Nancy Mellman and husband William of Hempstead; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved beer joint buddies. He also leaves behind his cherished canine companion, Whiskey Boy.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Frank and Mrs. Hattie Dixon, Mrs. Lillie Wilson, Ms. Monique Haynes, Ms. Breyonia "Bebe" Andrus, Ms. Tangela "Star" Embry, and Altus Hospice for their loving care of our Pawpaw.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Kyle Bremer, Zachary Bremer, Richard Bremer, Dyllan Bremer, Paul "Looch" Barro, Blake Brunner, Dustin Owen, and Jacob Prior.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 10am at Canon Coughlin Funeral Home in Waller. The funeral service will follow at 11am on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 also at Canon Coughlin. Interment will be held at Canon Mathis Cemetery in Waller immediately following the funeral.
