Obituary

Irma Holyfield Dennis passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 6, 2021. She was in the care of her son, Stephen, and his wife Katherine at home for the last several years and leaves behind a tremendous circle of dear friends and family in Texas and Mississippi.

Irma grew up in Mississippi, the daughter of Annie Pearl and Clarence. She married Cecil Dennis in 1960 and gave birth to their son, Stephen, five years later. Irma spent these years working tirelessly in administration for Spring Branch ISD. She and Cecil loved traveling in their RV and volunteering for the National Park Service in Colorado. She spent her later years volunteering at Waller United Methodist Church.

Irma was preceded in death by her husband, mother, and sister. In addition to her son and his wife, she is survived by her grandson Christopher, her nieces Debra and Deana, her nephew Ted, and a school bus full of adopted and claimed children and grandchildren of the heart.

Irma, or as she was affectionately known by many as "Momma Dennis," insisted that we remember her in joy, fellowship, and food rather than sadness and overpriced funeral flowers. A celebration of her life will be held in the fall with cooler weather and reduced COVID numbers, so please get your favorite recipes and folding chairs dusted off – details to follow in coming weeks.

A brief memorial service will be held in the coming days for local family and friends with an internment in Mississippi next to Cecil in the weeks to come.

In lieu of flowers, please donate as a tribute to Irma to further research into finding a cure for Alzheimer's Disease online at https://act.alz.org/site/Donation2?df_id=32112&32112.donation=form1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paidsearch&utm_campaign=google_giving&set.custom.wt=giving&gclid=Cj0KCQjwh_eFBhDZARIsALHjIKfSVxuab4cdsIHbJpvxqsemOxEnlBertyoj_AkipyNwAGbExk8DtEgaAkFtEALw_wcB .

The family thanks Silverado Hospice services for their support throughout these last few months.

Irma is in the care of Canon Funeral Home.
