Joy (as she preferred to be called) was born on October 1, 1931 in Katy, Texas. She graduated from Pattison High School in 1949. She then went on to beauty school and became a hairdresser for Minnie Tipton's Beauty Shop in Brookshire. She married her high school sweetheart, Carl Miller December 20, 1952 in Sealy, Texas. She spent her life on the farm that she and Carl developed over their lifetimes. She was an integral part of the farm operations and cooking meals for the farm help.
Early on she enjoyed self-taught painting on canvas. She opened a beauty shop on the farm which she continued for many years with on-going customers of the community. She could work in the shop when the children were in school. Joy was an avid gardener. She grew the best tomatoes and vegetables in the area and shared her abundance with family, the freezer and the community.
Joy was a member of Sealy All Around Cowboy Church and faithfully attended as long as she was able. She especially enjoyed the singing and messages straight from the scriptures. One could always find her reading her bible any time of day or night.
