George Richard Bartges, Sr. age 77 of Hempstead, TX went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2020 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Morgantown, West Virginia February 13, 1943 to Adolphus and Betty Lou Bartges. He joined the Air Force in 1960 and served our country for 20 years . After retiring from the USAF, the family moved to Houston, Texas. George worked for Western Atlas and later on for Baker Hughes as the perforation plant manager in Pine Island. He retired after 25 years.

George loved to golf and go RV group camping. He also loved NASCAR, cooking , and gardening.

George  was a beloved husband to Cherie Evans Bartges for 57 years and a beloved father to Angela and Butch Wilson and George Richard Bartges, Jr.

He was also a beloved Poppy to Rachael and Dustin Oehlke, Chantel and Chris Bolen, Michael Parsley, Ella Read, Justin Bartges, Khadijah Khalil, Mia Wilson, Brooke and Colin Byrd, Brandon Wilson and Amy Hunter. George's great grandchildren include Cash Peterman, Cayden Bolen, Cora Byrd, Oliver Read, Elliott Parsley, Josie Parsley and Jackson Wilson.

George was preceded in death by his parents Aldophus Richard Bartges and Betty Lou Prentice.

Visitation will be Friday,  May  29, 2020 from 5-7 pm at Canon Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 11 am at Canon Funeral Home with Pastor Sandra Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Hempstead Cemetery.

Those wishing to attend the service please use social distancing. Those who are not comfortable attending the service are invited to the graveside at 11:45 at the Hempstead Cemetery.
