Dura Isabel McNulty Estes, age 96 of Hempstead, TX passed away at her home on Saturday, March 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home in Baytown, TX on August 27, 1926. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and Lee College. She worked in Baytown at First National Bank and then at Citizens National Bank. Dura married the love of her life, Reo Ottie Estes, Jr., in 1946 and they raised 8 children and had 66 wonderful years together. Dura worked side by side with her husband, who owned Estes Exxon service station on the corner of Decker and Baker in Baytown, TX. She also handled the bookkeeping and payroll for the station. They had 25 years of service before they retired in 1988.
She is survived by her son, Reo Michael Estes and wife Imelda; daughters, Laura Ann White and husband Mike, Mary Catherine Simpson and husband Bob, Gloria Jean Cirilo and husband Don, Alma Elaine Garrett and husband Mike, Gladys Marie Rush and husband Bryan; daughter-in-law Susan King Estes; Lisa Kirk Brymer; sister-in-law Ruth McNulty; 19 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and numerous relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Murphy M. McNulty, Sr. and Anna Badeaux McNulty; husband, Reo Ottie Estes, Jr.; sons Rodney James Estes and Paul Leslie Estes; daughter-in-law Susan Earley Estes; sisters and brother-in-laws Alma McNulty Haddick and husband Luther, Murl McNulty Hinton and husband Leslie, Lois McNulty Phillips and husband Cecil; and brother, Murphy M. McNulty, Jr.
Dura was active in her church. She sang in the choir and baked cakes for the annual church bazaar. She enjoyed selling tickets at the numerous fish fries at the Knights of Columbus hall. She and Reo enjoyed square dancing and traveled all over the United States and parts of Canada in their travel trailer for seven years. Another favorite activity was working at the Santa Fe, NM KOA where she made many friends. Her hobbies included working in her yard, crocheting, and watching sports. Dura had a deep devotion and love for her family. She was always available when someone needed help.
Visitation will be at Canon Funeral Home in Waller, TX on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm with a rosary to follow. Funeral Services will be on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 10:00 am, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 800 FM 1488, Hempstead, TX 77445 with Father Xavier Bilavendiran officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 24496 Hwy 159 E, Hempstead, TX 77445.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church Building Fund or House of Help in Hempstead, TX.
