Diana Sue Blackford, 80, of Hempstead Texas, passed away on September 8, 2025. She was born in Grand Saline, Texas to James and Billie Sue Crocker, in 1944 the day after Christmas, her favorite holiday.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother "Nonnie" spent her life enriching the lives of those around her. She was a passionate gardener, and was known for her generous heart and unwavering kindness. Her kindness knew no bounds. She loved to give to others, whether it was a small gift or one of her homemade crafts. She spent her free time watching Hallmark movies, painting Christmas ornaments, sewing and making crafts for family and friends and never missed an opportunity to snuggle with her precious dogs.
She moved to Leadville, CO in 1990, where her compassion for others carried through her work as a nurse at St. Vincent General Hospital before retiring in 2006.
Diana was preceded in death by her mother and father Louie Dean and Billy Sue Oldham, her stepmother Shirley Oldham, and her granddaughter Sara Blackford.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Hershel, two sons, Kevin (Amber), Michael (Katie) Blackford, her daughter Connie (Weldon) Mundy. Twelve grandchildren—Ricky (Charley), Kevin (Makenzie), Justin (Montanna), Jacob (DeLaney), Meagan (Chris), Cody (Juan), Tyler (Christina), Juli (Craig) Haley, Lee (Jucel), Jordan (Dan). Fourteen great-grandchildren, Bella, Cooper, Kevin, Emma, Kassidy, Tate, Drew, Tristan, Rory, Rylee, Charlotte, Isaiah, Samuel.Tre' and Mallory coming in October and a precious baby Mundy coming March. Five siblings - Bill Oldham (Alida), Steve Cox (Molly), Tricia Oldham, Beverly Swick and Susie Redus (James) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Pine Island Baptist Church, 36573 Brumlow Rd, Hempstead, TX 77445. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pine Island Baptist Church in Diana's memory.
Diana is in the care of Canon Funeral Home.
