David Mitchell Magnon Sr. 73 of Cypress, Texas, passed away on May 19th, 2024.

He was born in East Chicago, Indiana and raised in Laredo, Texas where he married his high school sweetheart Maria Esther Garza. David and Esther married September 5, 1970. They moved to Houston, Texas to start a family. David was an excellent example of both hard work to support his family and a father of three children. He was a diesel mechanic and truck driver for Ryder Truck Rental while also maintaining additional part-time jobs. His work ethic was unparalleled, to guarantee the comfort and security of his family, who he loved deeply. He later retired from Ryder after 40 years of service.

David's commitment to his family extended beyond providing. He was actively involved in their lives. Despite working, he always prioritized family first. Activities included taking them to learn to swim at the YMCA, helping his daughter with science projects, bake sales/car washes, rifle team for his son Wayne for A.J.R.O.T.C., being at baseball, basketball, and football games for his son David, taking his sons and friends early morning pier fishing, and teaching all three how to drive. He taught his children the value of hard work and perseverance. He strived and succeeded to ensure that his wife, children, and grandchildren are well taken care of.

Family meant everything to him. His hobbies included swimming, fishing, and many annual Wings over Houston Air shows. Vacations were a must every summer. He loaded the family station wagon and off they went with a flexible time frame to stop to explore. He shared his love of his oldies music and his CB radio on their car ride adventures. He loved sports and attended many games over the years from the Oilers "Luv Ya Blue" days to the Astros, Texans, and Rockets. Old Westerns and John Wayne were pass time favorites.

Being a grandpa and great grandpa made his heart happy. He spoiled them. Being a big kid himself, taking them swimming a lot, attending his grandson's baseball games to cheer in the stands, the air show, church, and out to eat (China Doll).

He loved his wife, Esther, who he shared his life with for 53 years. They shared their love of Sunday family BBQs, poker games, lasagna contests, weekend casino trips, eating out, and lottery tickets/scratch offs.

As an active member of his community, his faith was seen through years of membership at Assumption Catholic Church, The Men's Club, as an Usher, Eucharistic Minister, Bizarre Committee Member, a 3rd Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and most recently attending St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church.
