Dale
Flukinger
Nov 21, 1946 — Jul 15, 2023
Waller County lost Dale Flukinger, a well-known, much-beloved native son on Saturday afternoon, July 15, 2023. Dale was 76 years old and was a lifelong resident of Waller County. He suffered from pancreatic cancer and left this world surrounded by those who loved him most, at home, on the land he had worked his entire life to manage and protect.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Canon Funeral Home in Waller. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at Canon with the burial to follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
Dale farmed with his father and brothers before and after his graduation from Waller High School. He attended Blinn College and through friends met Mary McMaster, who he courted, pursued, and wed in 1971. Dale continued to farm and built several businesses during his life including D&M Farms, D&J Services, and Waller County Septic, while raising a family that included daughters Kathryn Elisabeth and Sarah Dale. Dale's daughters married and made their lives alongside him on the land he loved. He volunteered in too many organizations and events to name, with notable contributions being his longtime service as an officer on the Shiloh Cemetery Board and his ever-present service working for the Saint Bartholomew Episcopal Church Turkey Dinner when it was still in existence.
Dale lost his beloved wife, Mary, in 2018 after a brave fight with lung cancer, an event that changed him and the way he looked at the world. In the last 2.5 years of his life, he was lucky enough to meet someone lost to his past in Wanda Harris Liberty. They developed a close relationship, with her staying by his side through his final days.
Dale is preceded in death by his mother Mary Borman, father Charlie Flukinger Jr., brother Larry Flukinger, and wife Mary Amanda McMaster. He is survived by brother Mark Flukinger with his wife Susan Brejcha and family, sister Cindy Flukinger with her husband Roland Stasny and family, daughter Kathy Flukinger with her husband Lee French, daughter Sarah Flukinger with her husband Chad Hillman, grandchildren Aubrey Dale French, Isabella Louise Hillman, and Jackson Charles Hillman, close friend and business partner Socorro Rodriguez, close friend Wanda Harris, and more friends and neighbors than can be listed here.
Dale was strong. He was defiant. He was loving. And he was fair. There will never be another one like him.
