Basilio Contreras, age 82, of Hempstead, peacefully passed away on July 26th, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, and willingness to lend a hand.

Basilio was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Firrza Contreras. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Ann Contreras; his loving children, Mark Contreras and wife Crystal, Renee Rodriguez and fiancé Tony, and Janice Contreras; his cherished grandchildren, Mario, Haley, and Joshua Rodriguez, Justin and Alyssa Contreras; his siblings, cousins, and a multitude of friends who loved him dearly.

Throughout his life, Basilio was dedicated to his work at NCI, where he served faithfully for 31 years and retired proudly as the Foreman. But even after retirement, his work didn't stop. He kept busy with house projects, countless miles on the road driving around with his wife, Mary Ann, and buying way too many broken lawn mowers because he wanted to fix them up. His passion for life and hands-on approach kept him active and engaged.

He was passionate about watching football, but, if you asked who his team was, it often depended on who was winning at the moment and what point in the season it was. He loved the Houston Astros and enjoyed spending time at the coast and fishing in his earlier years. An avid card player, Basilio loved spending quality time sitting around the table playing for hours with his family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

His kindness, humor and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace, knowing he was loved beyond measure.

Visitation will be Friday, August 1, 2025 from 1-3pm at Canon Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3pm with a rosary at 4:00pm.
